Located 12 km from the centre of Bilbao, this airport is the largest in the region, with nearly six million passengers each year. It is served by some 20 national and international airlines. The new terminal, inaugurated in 2000 and designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava, is shaped like a bird in flight, earning the airport the nickname La Paloma (the dove). Bilbao's metro network currently consists of three lines. An easy and very safe means of communication, the metro serves all the towns on the right bank, from Plentzia on line 1 to the capital's Casco Viejo, including Getxo and Sopelana. Line 2 goes to Portugalete, on the left bank, as well as Barakaldo and Santurtzi. Line 3, inaugurated in 2017, connects the centre with the northern districts of the city. The futuristic look of the metro mouths is by Norman Foster.

The walk starts from Castaños street, near the Campo Volantin, between the city hall and the Salvé bridge, to the top of Artxanda mountain, 250 meters above sea level, a leisure area with large green spaces, walks, bars and restaurants. It offers the best view of Bilbao. Inaugurated in 1915, the funicular travels 770 meters in 3 minutes, with departures every 15 minutes. In addition to its utilitarian function, the funicular is a tourist attraction in Bilbao.

Brussels Airlines offers daily flights and direct to Bilbao at the beginning of Brussels. Allow 2 hours flight.

Cercanias trains towards Valmaseda (Las Encartaciones) and regional trains towards Santander and León. This is also the case of the tourist Train Transcantábrico, which runs through the entire north of Spain to Santiago de Compostela.

Direct connections between Bilbao and Paris CDG. Between April and October, there are also direct flights to Geneva.

This train crossing northern Spain has existed since 1983. A convoy of time-and-car shows travels almost 800 km between Santiago de Compostela and San Sebastian, with visits every day in the different stages of travel (Bilbao, Santander, Gijón, Oviedo, etc.). Timeless, superb and expensive.

Air Europa offers daily and direct connections between Paris-CDG and Bilbao (flights operated by Air France). Take approximately 1 hour of flight.
