Nicknamed "Queen of the Welsh Resorts", Llandudno is a very Victorian, very English resort: long avenues, a waterfront built of hotels, all with breathtaking views. Could it be the "Cannes" of Great Britain? A pontoon, a wooden promenade with pavilions and blue-and-white boutiques create a very 19th-century, posh atmosphere . There's an air of old-fashioned glory and grandeur, with the facades of once-prestigious hotels. Llandudno, named the "UK's most pleasant town" in 2012, is very popular with English retirees.Like many coastal towns, Llandudno is very lively in summer and much quieter in winter, when many establishments are closed and the streets deserted. The main attraction of this seaside resort is the ascent of the Great Orme(Pen y Gogarth in Welsh), a 206-metre-high cliff overlooking the town that can be climbed on foot, by streetcar or, even easier, by cable car!Another tourist attraction: the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898) is said to have spent many summers in Llandudno, during which the man better known under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll wrote his Alice in Wonderland. The local popular imagination deduced that Wonderland was Llandudno.
