A small town with grey stone houses stretching along the Wnion River in the southern part of Snowdonia National Park. It was here that Owain Glyndwr formed a Welsh Parliament in 1404, during which he signed a deed of allegiance to the King of France, Charles VI, to fight the English. Between the 18th and mid-19th centuries, the main resource of the village was the manufacture and trade of wool. The surrounding mountains were also once home to gold mines, known to have been used to make wedding rings for the royal family! Dolgellau (pronounced "Dolgethlay") is also very popular with climbers, who tackle the ascent of the Cader Idris mountain (893 metres above sea level).
