Sukumo Port is located at the southern end of the Bungo Channel and is the sea gateway to southwestern Shikoku. This part of the island is considered one of the least inhabited places in Japan. A Yayoi pottery was discovered there a few years ago. Nowadays, this area attracts mostly young Japanese divers. From the harbor pier, you can see Kanyo Island, a place where you can watch the sunset. Sukumo is accessible by train through JR and has a direct connection to Nakamura Station (a base for exploring the Shimanto River). Not far away is the 39th temple: the Enkōji.
