On the way to Toyama, Furukawa was once a lordly town with a castle. Nowadays, it has become a quiet town which still has old stores(kura), old residences and many stalls. However, the city is less well preserved than Takayama. The city is of modest size. So you can visit it in 2 or 3 hours while strolling around.
