This village is historically the cradle of Japan. 1,400 years ago, when the Archipelago was founded as a country, the seat of imperial power was established on the lands of Asuka: in 593, Empress Suiko established her power in Asuka and made it her capital. She entrusted the regency to her nephew Shōtoku Taishi who promulgated the seventeen articles of a constitution that preached the principles of peace. Asuka is a place of history and culture nestled in the midst of lush nature. The village is the origin of the country's administrative organization, its monetary economy and its diplomacy. Today, traces of this historical past can be found thanks to archaeological excavations that have brought to light these priceless treasures. This open-air museum can be discovered by bicycle and the ride allows you to marvel at the rice terraces as far as the eye can see.
