KOFUN D'ISHIBUTAI
Built at the beginning of the 7th century, this tomb is believed to be that of Soga no Umako, a member of the Soga clan. Formerly a burial mound, the kofun is now composed only of stones. Its weight is estimated at 2,300 tons. Thirty stones were used for construction. Its impressive length of 54 metres makes this tomb the largest megalithic structure recorded in the Archipelago. You can even go inside the kofun to see the inside. Archaeological excavations have revealed traces of a 12-metre wide ditch around the tomb.
