A port located southeast of Aomori, Hachinohe allows you to go by ferry to Tomakomai in Hokkaidō. The town is known for its Hachinohe Sansha Taisa festival, which is listed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage site. It is one of the most prominent float festivals. The spectacle of the procession of the three shrines and 27 floats, held on August1 and 3, is very impressive. The ferry to Tomakomai leaves the port four times a day via Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry (about 9 hours). You can reach Hachinohe from Aomori in 1.5 hours via the Aoimori Line or from Shin-Aomori in 23 minutes via the Hayabusa Shinkansen.
