On the way to Sawata, you will find Izumi, where the residence of the exiled emperor Juntoku is located. Sawata is about 15 km from Ryōtsu, on the opposite side of the island (50 minutes by bus on the Hon-sen line). You can also take the bus to Shimonagaki and walk for 30 minutes to reach Myoshoji, the temple that belongs to the Nichiren sect. The rebel monk of the same name lived there for three years in exile and the temple became one of the most powerful of the sect. From the top, a path takes you to a panorama of rice fields. You can also enjoy the beach. What to settle down and contemplate the horizon a few moments.
