This charmless town is the largest near Monument Valley (which is 25 miles north, or about 40 km). Its population, mostly Navajo, is just over 5,200. There are several hotels, bed and breakfasts, RV campgrounds and restaurants, gas stations and supplies. On a Wednesday, you can visit the lively Flee Market to sample Navajo cuisine and buy local crafts. You can also visit the Navajo Arts and Crafts Enterprise, which has a wide selection of products made by local artisans.
