The cathedral Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo was built in the first half of the eighteenth century on the ruins of a previous church completely destroyed by a Turkish assault in 1537. Largely remodeled during the nineteenth century, it today presents a sober neoclassical facade, and inside, in the Latin cross, remains the original crypt digged in the rock.
