Cathedral dedicated to the Madonna Annunziata, protector of the city of Castro.
Dedicated to the Madonna Annunziata, patroness of the town, this church was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style. On the left flank are the remains of an earlier 10th-century Byzantine church with a Greek cross floor plan and half-faded frescoes featuring holy figures and a Madonna and Child. Bypassing the edifice, you reach the ramparts, where the remains of the ancient Messapian fortifications, built of large squared stones, have been uncovered.
