FINLAYSON SPACE
A must-see! The former Finlayson cotton mill has been converted into a gigantic cultural and leisure space. Through the large gateway, you can see the Tallipiha courtyard, home to craft stores, a multiplex cinema, restaurants and cafés. Ten restaurant-cafés await you for your lunch breaks, including a bistro, an Italian restaurant, an Indian restaurant, a café-bakery, and above all, at the top, the Café Katto (and its rooftop with panoramic terrace from which the view over Tampere is just magnificent: it's a well-kept secret among the locals who come here to drink their coffee at lunchtime). If it's raining or freezing, don't hesitate to bring the kids along - it's the perfect place to spend a warm day with the whole family!
Several interesting and interactive museums also occupy the premises:
The Central Museum of the Werstas Workers (free; open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 6pm; www.tyovaenmuseo.fi). A true immersion into the daily life of the workers of the time, with its stores, houses and social struggles..
The Textile Museum (an extension of the Workers' Museum): amidst the fabrics and noise of the machines, you'll learn all about the history and different industrial techniques used in this former spinning mill.
Rooftop tour : a unique and safe way to see Tampere from the rooftops, with a guide (and in small groups): https://roofwalk.fi/, €35 per person, must be booked online.
