Lohja has been an attractive region since the 14th century. Today, it has a population of 46,000 (2020). The landscape is dotted with manor houses and gardens reflected in Lake Lohjanjärvi. Elias Lönnrot, author of the Kalevala, was born here. The medieval church of Saint-Laurent is one of the most remarkable in the country. In the region, Siunto and Inkoo are two beautiful medieval churches worth a visit. Another must-see is Lohja, where you'll find a mine that's still in operation, and an exceptional museum where you can learn about the lives of miners 110 m underground. Transport: one hour by bus from Helsinki, departures every 30 min.
