Travel Guide Feodosiya (Феодосія)

80 000 inhabitants. Founded by the Greeks, Feodosiya was a very prosperous city until the Huns came to ruin it in the fourth century. It had a new period of splendour during the invasion of Genoese in the 1475 th century before being occupied by the Tatars in. It will fall into the Russian fold in 1783 and will be occupied by the Germans during World war II. Feodosiya, far from the green landscapes of southern Crimea, is located in the west of the peninsula, where the beach blends with the steppe and mountainous landscapes. Visitors appreciate its quiet streets, white sandy beach and low prices. Arriving at Feodosiya, a former Greek city in the middle of August, is a rather surprising vision. Indeed, the entire Ukrainian and Russian population, which cannot afford the prestigious seaside resorts such as Yalta, will find themselves there for an abundance of feasts and delusions. This beautiful city turns into a giant carnival, with beer stands, game stands, nightclubs every 10 m and surenchère of shows.Apart from this summer (from early June to late August), this city is a real gem. The originality of its history, the beauty of its streets and the magic of its landscapes make it an essential cultural stage of any visit to Crimea. The old town is surely one of the nicest places to walk. The large colorful villas and a little dilapidated, the shaded alleys make it an undeniable place of charm. The bouquet of the walk is the visit of the ruins of the sponge fortress (of which there are only two towers) and the three small churches on the same site.The panorama that is then discovered on the sea, the very port where the Greeks first landed, is one of the unknown pearls of Crimea. Please note that if you arrive in Feodosiya in the middle of August, the old town is completely preserved from the invasion of beach holidaymakers, who do not leave one millimetre the centre (Lenina Avenue) where beaches and festivities are located.
