A strange Orthodox cathedral designed by a New York architectural firm and completed in 2012. Circular shape and enormous dome.

This Orthodox cathedral (Katedralja Ngjallja e Krishtit) was erected in 2012 according to the plans of a New York architectural firm. It is the seat of the metropolis (bishopric) of Gjirokastra. The building is in the form of an amazing rotunda covered with a dome (26 m in diameter, 23 m high) whose drum is pierced by windows with semi-circular canopies. Various annexes are attached to the cylinder: narthex, chapels... Façade and interior richly decorated.
