FORT DE PORTO PALERMO
Well-preserved triangular fort of Venetian origin (c. 1500) on the peninsula in the center of Porto Palermo Bay.
This triangular fort (Kalaja e Porto Palermos) occupies a 5-hectare peninsula in the center of Porto Palermo Bay. Its creation is often attributed to the redoubtable Ali Pacha, in the early 19th century. But history was rewritten during the Communist period: it is in fact a Venetian fort dating from the 1500s. It remains in good condition and offers beautiful views over the bay, with a small beach at the entrance to the peninsula. Between early July and mid-August, the fort hosts the Porto Palermo festival (classical music, DJs, Albanian variety...).
