Glacier Portage has a center for learning about the Chugah National Forest with an exhibit and films

Just before the tunnel to Whittier, there is an observation platform with telescopes to view the ever-receding glacier and its glacial lake. Feel free to take an afternoon hike along the Portage Pass Trail for great views of the glacier. At the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center, located on Portage Lake, you can learn more about the Chugach National Forest through an exhibit and screening of the film Retreat and Renewal: Stories from Alaska's Chugach National Forest.
