Old town on the Richardson Highway with explanatory and commemorative plaques
Located 6 km from downtown, on the Richardson Highway, the old town of what was once Valdez is lined with explanatory and commemorative plaques. Indeed, the 1964 earthquake, followed by the tidal wave, washed away a good part of the original town. For safety reasons, the authorities decided to move the city to its present location. There is not much to see except a memorial, a historical cemetery but we go there for the nice walk in front of the Valdez glacier and along the bay.
