Established in 1905, Tsumeb, with its wide streets adorned with bougainvilleas and jacarandas, is the most important mining town in Namibia. Like Otavi, Tsumeb's prosperity has been based on its rich subsoil and rocks: Tsumeb's lead mine is one of the largest in the world. The extraction of copper, carried out by the Tsumeb Corporation, and the presence of associated minerals (silver, lead, germanium and cadmium) make this region an indispensable stopover for all geology enthusiasts, who will be able to find minerals unknown elsewhere (the Tsumeb Museum has a very complete collection).
