This Hallette aux Vins offers, in the heart of the city, countless wine references. It is a real passion that animates the owner of the place, who makes it a point of honour not to pass through wine merchants, but to deal directly with the producers. All this results in a qualitative and quantitative shelving, with no less than 350 references, and many bottles at less than ten euros. Reds, whites, rosés: nothing is missing and, as you will have understood, advice is not an empty word. Oenology courses are also offered.

I have been buying wine here for at least 20 years; we visit my wife’s family nearby regularly. La Hallette aux Vins has a very good range of the main French wine types, names and areas, plus the best of little known ‘hors d’appellation’ growers. Hugues offers advice, and we typically start the visit with a selection to try round the family table. This visit I bought 4 cases to take back to UK (some annual favourites plus some new finds), plus a 15 year old Calvados. Each wine I have bought has the distinctive characteristics and quality that one would expect from a specialist wine shop; these are authentic wines, and with a good range of price points to choose from. Le patron est très compétant, sympa avec beaucoup d'humour, grand choix de bourgognes et de côtes de Gascogne qui sont des vins qui m'ont surpris de par leur rapport qualité prix . Je recommande chaudement.

Séjournant régulièrement sur Portbail, pour rien au monde je louperais un passage à la Hallette. Le patron est très sympa et sait deviner ce qu'il me faut. Jamais déçu de ses conseils et de ses avis. Top et punk not dead ????
