MONK'S HEAD CHEESE DAIRY
Read moreIt's a funny name for a funny cheese. Yet this hand-held mini-meule is one of Switzerland's finest cheeses. The flavors of Monk's Head's semi-hard paste are revealed by the caressing cut of the girolle. The tool transforms the slices into small, creamy shavings that are deliciously savored. The history and originality of this cheese, a Jura speciality and PDO, from its manufacture to its tasting, can be discovered at the cheese dairy.
RESERVE NATURELLE ETANG DE LA GRUERE
Read moreLocated in Saignelégier, Switzerland, Etang de la Gruère is a nature reserve offering magnificent scenery and a peaceful atmosphere. Surrounded by wooded pastures, this peat bog pond is home to flora and fauna that are rare in Switzerland, and characteristic of the Siberian tundra. It also bears witness to the region's climate history over the last 12,000 years. Visitors can stroll along the trails and observe the plants and animals typical of the high marshes. We recommend taking a break at the Cerlatez nature center, where thematic exhibits provide a better understanding of the peat bog. Hiking enthusiasts can also extend their visit to the La Chaux-des-Breuleux peat bog, another high moor of national importance. L'Etang de la Gruère can be reached by train to Saignelégier, then by bus to the Les Cerlatez stop, or on foot.
