Some establishments opt to close on Mondays. Most bars and pubs close early, around 11pm. Night bars may be open much later. The afternoon gourmet break is a time-honored tradition, and chocolatiers have plenty to offer.
Drink prices are in keeping with the destination, a little more expensive than elsewhere. A coffee (here, equal to a large coffee) costs CHF 3.50 with the small cream, beer CHF 7, softs CHF 5 to 7, cocktails from CHF 13.
Service is included, but a tip is always appreciated.
It is permitted to buy and consume alcohol from the age of 18. In supermarkets, identity cards are frequently requested.
It is customary, especially in summer, to join the afterworks and happy hours. The lakefront, the Jardin Anglais and the Rhone banks are filled with locals who come to enjoy themselves over an aperitif and a good Swiss wine.
The Place du Bourg du Four is the place to be in Geneva for an aperitif or a coffee. On market days, like the one in Carouge, all the bars and restaurants are packed with locals.
