Barda is the last accessible town in the centre of the country before the Armenian occupation line, located in Terter, 5 km further south. Until the 7th century, Barda was the capital of the Kingdom of Albania. Local legend even claims that it was founded by Alexander the Great. It housed a few caravanserais for travellers and was divided into quarters reserved for professional corporations: potters' quarter, glass-blowers' quarter, etc. The town was also the home of a number of caravanserais for travellers. The tradition of craftsmanship, although less alive, has not completely disappeared: Barda's carpets are still very famous.
