Located 30 km southeast of Wroclaw on the road to Opole, this town has many buildings, most of which were rebuilt after the destruction in 1945. Brzeg, then Brieg, like the rest of the region, was German, and the Nazis defended it fiercely. The rebuilding has been admirably carried out, and Brzeg has retained its appearance as a small town rich in treasures on the banks of the Oder, which makes for a day trip. We recommend that you visit the castle first. In the vicinity of Brzeg, the small churches of Małujowice and Strzelniki are worth a visit for their magnificent 14th-century frescoes.
