The city was severely destroyed during the war and today boasts huge concrete suburbs that are neither touristy nor aesthetically pleasing. Where Communism meets Prussian classicism, Szczecin has a unique and attractive architecture. The city center, meanwhile, stretches along the left bank of the Oder, in a triangle between Zwycięsta Square, Grundzwaldzki Square and the quays. Niepodległośći Alley and Trasa Zamkowa are the main thoroughfares. A stroll along the Oder quays is one of the most pleasant things to do in Szczecin (even the locals do it!). Or take a stroll down Kolumba Street, not far from the railway station.
