On the edge of the forest on the shores of the lakes, Sajno, Necko and Białe, this small town of 30,000 inhabitants did not really develop until the 19th century, with the construction of its gigantic canal (1824-1839) and the railroad. Destroyed by the Second World War, the city is not a major attraction today. However, a set of classical buildings has been preserved in its center and projects a very pleasant charm. Its atmosphere is unique: it is like an oasis in the middle of lakes and forests as far as the eye can see from the huge Augustów Forest. The city is a real green tourism destination that thrives in the summer months
