At the foot of the mountain, the small town is made of wooden blocks painted in grey, yellow, pink and many other colours. In winter, it is subject to particularly violent storms which, in 1992, cost the lives of 42 sailors from the village. Kongsjford, some 30 kilometres from Berlevåg, has landscapes that are worth every kilometre driven, but the RV890 between Konjsfjord and Bervelåg is no less worthwhile. It follows the windy coastline through a landscape of fjords and jagged cliffs, a wild and spectacular setting. On the way there is a beautiful white sandy beach.
