Mosjøen is the oldest town in the Helgeland region. This small town of 10,000 inhabitants, situated on a sandy lagoon at the bottom of the Vefsna fjord, lives peacefully from its aluminum factory, and there's not much to do here. Sjøgata Street, with its old, colorful, listed wooden houses and 19th-century quays, is not lacking in charm, however, and you'll also want to stop off at the interesting War Memorial. So plan to spend only a few hours in Mosjøen, and spend more time in nature, on the superb hiking trails nearby (the summit of Oyfjellvarden via the Helgelandstrappa steps).
