On the shores of Lake Tanganyika, in the sweltering heat of the Great Rift Valley, Mpulungu is the largest port in Zambia, which handles all trade with the north of the continent. It is from here that you will have to leave to sail to Tanzania, more exactly to Kigoma. In this apparently sleepy town, the animation is intense at the arrival of the ferry or the goods boats. Mpulungu has an international atmosphere with influences from southern, central and eastern Africa. Some expatriates have settled here for business or as aid workers, but most villagers are fishermen, who launch their boats at sunrise and sunset. It is possible to sleep in the village, but it is better to move away from it to enjoy the quiet beauty of the lake.
