The name of this town whistles in your ear like the name of a tribal chief. We are here in the tranquility of the South West. A small town that is still growing, Sumbawanga has charm. The population, friendly and convivial, is that of small towns. Everyone knows each other and greets each other. In the evening, the streets come alive, people take the time to discuss, leaning against their houses, despite the emerging coolness because of the altitude (1 800 m). It is then very pleasant to finish your day at the terrace of a café where people will not fail to come and make conversation with you. The city is unfortunately only a place of transit for the traveller. Apart from the Uwanda reserve, known only to experienced hunters, there is not much to see in the area. However, it is possible to reach the nearby Lake Rukwa, hike in the wild Mbizi Mountains or take a look at the Kalambo Waterfalls and Lake Tanganyika. No other access to the lake is easier until Kigoma, almost 600 km away..
