Located 50 kilometres from Sana'a, Amran is at the crossroads of two main roads, the north towards Sadaa and the north-west, which passes through Hajja and goes down to the Tihama. Amran was mapped by Sheikh Mourhed, of the tribal confederation of the Bakils, in the first century before our era. In the th and th centuries, Amran was a sa intellectual center. In its mosque, Al-Dhafeer, three imams buried. The ancient city, located behind the new city, is surrounded by ramparts that counted up to fifteen bastions. Like the ramparts, the houses are built on stone foundations. This construction technique is called "zabour": it is composed of clay soaked in sand and straw, wet water, and then strongly trampled. The walls are mounted by adding patties to each other. The killers, oculis, and small windows are open as the wall is built. Above the door is a lintel of wood or stone. Simple wooden wire in a rectangular frame form the moucharabiehs. The wall is then smoothed with a more liquid layer of the same. Openings are surrounded by a "goss" layer without frills. The houses have a maximum of three floors. This very linear earth architecture with rounded angles has a truly futuristic look. Œuvre's peaks are recognized among the Best in Yemen. They were called to Sana'a for rehabilitation of the old town. Amran's charm also lies in the fact that there is practically no traffic traffic inside the ancient city. You can walk in a quiet way, by detailing the sculpted south-arabiques stones reused in the construction of houses. See the old souk and, in the vault of the main door, the sud engraved stones. A large modern market extends on Thursday in the modern city. Amran the old is a high place of the kalame and will know it. The children are lovely and escort you to the small market square where you can enjoy good mint tea.The next city on the north road is Rayda, about kilometres from Amran. It is one of the commercial cities in the region. There is a market on Tuesday.
