The ruins of this keep stand on a granite rock overlooking the Vire River.
The ruins of the keep stand on a granite rock overlooking the river Vire, revealing the only vestige of the feudal castle. Built by Henry I, Duke of Normandy and son of William the Conqueror, it was dismantled by order of Richelieu in 1630 to prevent it falling into Protestant hands. Today, only the facade remains, with its flat buttresses and three storeys, typical of Norman square keeps such as those at Falaise and Chambois. An impressive site and a relaxing stroll in the heart of the town.
