Ponta de João Ribeiro in Mindelo, located after the beach of Laginha, with a promontory, the remains of an old military camp

Just north of Laginha beach, behind the Cabnave shipyard and a 15-minute walk away, you'll find the remains of a former military camp and its old cannons at the end of a promontory. They were used during the Second World War to defend the bay against potential incursions by German submarines, supposedly based on the nearby island of Santo Antão. But above all, you can admire the breathtaking scenery, especially the Ilheu dos Pássaros. In strong winds, keep well away from the shore.
