Dominant Mindelo and Porto Grande Bay, the fortress was built in 1852 to defend the city. Transformed into prison in the 1930 s, the fort was abandoned in recent years, lance by a few poor families. A British company has acquired the place to transform it into a complex of luxury hotel, casino and apartment, but the work has still not started.
