8 km north of Santa Maria on the road to Espargos, the bay of Murdeira was once populated by farmers and fishermen. With its small sandy beaches, it has been under the sway of real estate developers since the 1990s. These condominiums have seen the growth of a semi-closed community as residences have been purchased, mainly by Cape Verdeans. Protected from the waves by rocks, these beautiful beaches are ideal for safe swimming. To get there, pass the Baia Village Club, take the trail on the left that follows the coast, crosses a flat desert area and gently descends into a mini oasis of acacias.
