Opposite Sal Rei, this uninhabited islet is 2 km long and is used as a camping and picnic area by the islanders. It is now part of the protected areas of Cape Verde. On its southern tip, you can see the remains of the Duque de Braganca fort, built in 1820 to resist the virulent pirate attacks that are very frequent in this part of the world. You can go there by kayak, it is a pleasant and easy walk when the sea is calm. The most courageous can swim the short kilometre that separates the islet from the coast, in shallow waters. The reward is a beautiful view of Sal Rei.
