The capital of the district of the same name, this dynamic little town hosts one of the country's biggest trade fairs, while also boasting a number of cultural assets. Ried was home to a famous family of sculptors, the Schwanthaler family. Their works can be seen in the region's churches and at the Innviertel Volkskundehaus museum, where they are harmoniously displayed in a beautifully renovated vaulted space. Ried is also home to a major Austrian sporting goods brand, Fischer, known for its skis and tennis rackets (the triangular logo). The old town center retains all its charm.
