A hike north across the slope of the Namshraun lava dome, along the ridges on Nordurnamur
An unmarked hike not to be missed heads north across the eastern slope of the Námshraun lava dome stopped by the Jökulgil, then the basaltic lava flow Norðurnámshraun, and then climbs along the ridges to Norðurnámur (786 m). From the summit, you have a panoramic view of the entire northern Landmannalaugar landscape. You can continue to Ljótipollur, an elliptical, bowl-shaped crater with red slopes and a beautiful blue lake. A branch of the trail goes around it. It is possible to return by going around Frostastaðahraun.
