Warning do not stay here / waste your money
1. Food
There is only a set menu with 1 option of food a day so if you don’t like what is on the menu, tough luck. Nearest restaurant with options is a 9 min drive or 2 hour walk if you want to enjoy a pint.
Breakfast is €17 for a cheap array of food with basic yogurt and cereal being the highlight.
2. Room
No tv, if you want a double bed it is just 2 single beds pushed together with single duvets. Water provided is from the bathroom (ew) as informed by staff. The housekeeping do a sorry and disgraceful attempt at cleaning the room. They don’t refill coffee station nor do they make the bed. Asked for both of these and was ignored by staff. Please see photo of ‘cleaned’ room.
3. Hotel
Hotel has no reception nor lobby. Besides your room and the unwelcoming restaurant there is a room with old chairs, a piano and a display cabinet to relax in. Couldn’t even put in a coffee stand in it.
Would not stay here again nor recommend. The staff, facility, location, food option are all failures and besides it being close to the cathedral I think it would be closed down. I’m not sure where anyone that gave this a hotel a decent review stayed but their standards must be very low.
Save your money and time and book somewhere else!

Das Hotel, nahezu am Ende der Welt gelegen, bietet - neben der herrlichen Ruhe - unheimlich viel für Körper, Seele und Geist (und Magen). Ich kann ees zum Aufenthalt nur jedem Island-Reisenden empfehlen. Das junge Team, die Lage, die Kirche sind eine wunderbare Einheit.

Check in ab 16:00 h und check out bis 10:00 h. Was passiert in der Zwischenzeit? Braucht der Cleaning Service sechs Stunden für ein Zimmer oder wird es zwischenzeitlich stundenweise vermietet, vielleicht an müde Wanderer? Die Antwort auf meine Bitte nach späteren Check out "es wäre Hauptsaison" kann ich nicht akzeptieren.

It was comfortable and quiet, exactly what we were looking for after a full day in the Golden Circle. Good bed and good shower. Clean linen, good towels. Nespreso machine in the room. A good place to rest, which was much needed. Besides, there is a great restaurante - which we didn't try but the menu was appealing - and beautiful historical church. We may return.

Everything was really great! The house we had was amazing! Clean and big. It had a hot tub and all we needed. I am giving 4 stars because they expect you to clean after you the whole apartment. And we missed the cover over hot tub.

Rooms are clean, bathroom is good. The only concern is about the breakfast that open too late (08:00 in the morning, should be open starting at least at 07:00). Breakfast is OK, not the best I ever had but it works ! Staff is very nice and always here to help with a smile.

Ruhiger Ort um Kreativität zu leben. Musikfreunde kommen Dank einem frei zugänglichen Klavier und einer Gitarre voll auf ihre Kosten.
Durch die beiden Fenster neben dem Kaminfeuer, lassen sich die Nordlichter bei latenter Wärme bestaunen.
Das Essen ist unglaublich lecker und die Bar lässt keine Wünsche offen.
Gerne wieder.

Worst hotel which is taken advantage of weather conditions
We booked non-refundable room where our entire trip got cancelled because of weather conditions
We got in touch with hotel to refund as this is not really our fault and the answer was that the room is non-refundable. I agree and i understand the non-refundable room, however our another hotel cancelled the booking and did a refund with no issue. Blue lagoon did not make any problem as we were supposed to be there like 8 hours and they refunded the money with no question. Same for Blue car rental, they also did not even ask a word and they said we know the weather situation but this hotel got advantage of the natural thing, weather conditions and got our money for nothing.
Such a shameful hotel taking people’s money in that way and ignoring them, shame on you, you should be ashamed by your act.

Kind and warm owners, clean and quiet accommodation, and excellent food in the restaurant. I strongly recommend a visit!
I've traveled to Iceland 10 times over the last 15 years, and I'm consistently impressed by the hospitality and outstanding food you find at many family-owned hotels; Hotel Skalholt is no exception! I stayed one night while passing through and found the accommodations clean, the hospitality absolutely outstanding, and the food top notch!
The restaurant offered a set menu for dinner and the chef (and co-owner) did an absolutely outstanding job!

Fiquei uma noite, fui muito bem atendido, comi muito bem e tive a sorte de fazer o check in ao som de um coral que estava hospedado no local.
Único ponto de melhoria é tirar a placa da porta que pede para ligar em um telefone para fazer check in, isso me deixou confuso, depois entrei e não achava a recepção

The best restaurant in all of Iceland. The chef is incredible. My partner and I stayed here for two nights and ate at the restaurant both nights. Best decision. Hotel is romantic, cozy, with beautiful views of the church and northern lights. What a treat to stay here!

We stayed for two nights with 18 people at Skálholts Búðir. Great place for large groups.

Das Gelände ist frei zugänglich. Die Kirche wird gerade renoviert und ist eingerüstet. Die tatsächliche Bedeutung des Ortes für Island ist für den Besucher wenig nachvollziehbar.

Vam tenir un problema amb el cotxe i molt amablement ens van ajudar venint-nos a recollir. A part de l'amabilitat del personal, els bungalows són molt còmodes i calents, amb una banyera d'hidromassatge exterior a punt quan arribes.

Very good restaurant, beware set menu only, but it is very good.
Surprisingly it was folly booked on the day of our arrival as local bike club had an event there. Next day it was half empty.
Rooms are clean and very quiet. Good shower.
Plenty of free parking
Good breakfast. Helpful and friendly staff.
Reception of the hotel is the bar at the restaurant.
