This national park (since 1991) is located at the eastern end of the Paria Peninsula. The area is 72 600 hectares. It is in the gulf that Atlantic and Orinoco waters meet. It offers an ecosystem similar to that of the Orinoco Delta. Of course, the canals (Caños) bordered by mangrove trees, in the search for birds of all kinds, caïmans, monkeys, toucans, boa constrictor, and with a little luck, can be seen in dolphins. The two main Caños are called Ajies (in the north) and Guariquen (south of the park). Near it is the lake of Guanoco, which is a curiosity: it is the largest natural asphalt lake in the world.Transport. From Yaraguaparo or Guaique by boat. By land: Check with the Las Tr es Carabelas Posada in San Juan de las Galdonas or at the Vuelta Larga camp operating in the region.
