HERMITAGE OF SANT ELM
The hermitage of Sant Elm is frequently used today as a setting for wedding photos
Its belvedere is the most spectacular viewpoint on the Costa Brava, stretching from Palamós to Tossa de Mar. And it was this perspective, together with the spectacle of the steep coastline, that led Ferran Agulló to give it its name of Costa Brava, in an article published in 1908 in the newspaper La Veu de Catalunya. Strategically located on the Sant Feliu coastline, the hermitage served as a defensive fortress from the 15th century until its destruction by French troops in the 18th century. It was rebuilt in 1923, under the impetus of industrialist Pere Rius i Taulet, as part of the Sant Elm mountain garden-city project. Today, the site is frequently used as a backdrop for wedding photos.
