In the heart of the City, Guildhall has been the centre of government since the Middle Ages. The first Guildhall was built in the 15th century, and its original porch has been preserved to this day. The façade, built in 1789, is a curious variation on the use of architectural elements from the era of cathedral builders. For several centuries, the Guildhall has been both the Parliament and the City Hall of La City. It houses the oldest watchmaking museum in the world.

This huge neo-classical building stands on the same site as the original Old Somerset House, built in 1547 by order of Edward Seymour, first Duke of Somerset. On the fall of the latter, the building became royal property and a place of entertainment, but as it fell into disrepair, the court moved to St James's Palace. It was William Chambers who, in the ^18th century, transformed the building in the purest Palladian style. Today, Somerset House is one of London's major cultural centers, housing the Courtauld Institute's collection since 1989. Less well known than some of London's other museums, the Courtauld Institute boasts a superb private collection, notably of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists, including such masters as Degas, Cézanne, Van Gogh and Gauguin. Somerset House is an important venue for exhibitions, events and art fairs. There's always something going on, with exhibitions, workshops, discussions and other cultural events. Its superb courtyard is the venue for summer concerts and film screenings under the stars. In winter, a skating rink is set up in a 100% fairytale atmosphere. Its exceptional architecture has been used as a backdrop for many famous films, including The Duchess and Love Actually. Founded in 1946 by Geoffrey Grigson, Roland Penrose, Herbert Read, Peter Gregory, E.L.T. Mesens and Peter Watson, the Institute of Contemporary Arts quickly achieved the status of a museum of modern art, introducing the general public to artists of all kinds. Today, it hosts exhibitions and cutting-edge film screenings all year round. It's an astonishing sight in this very wise and traditional Mayfair district. Don't be fooled by the façade's apparent classicism.

The Saatchi Gallery moved from County Hall in 2005 and relocated to King's Road in 2008. The new multi-storey space allows for a better display of the works of contemporary artists selected by Charles Saatchi. The opening of this gallery in the London cultural panorama has been a real success and the famous collector who discovered artists such as Tracey Emin or Damien Hirst has a major influence on British art. The exhibitions change regularly but are always of high quality!

The new photography exhibition and sales gallery, founded by art historian and art dealer Dr James Hyman, opened its doors in January 2023. Spanning six spaces, the center aims to support and promote the photographic art of artists working in the UK through events and exhibitions. The Centre for British Photography also provides access to the world-renowned Hyman Collection for a particularly enriching artistic journey.

Founded in 2000 by the influential Jay Jopling. White and cubic, of course, White Cube is home to the very best in British contemporary art. Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Gary Hume were all launched here and are regularly exhibited. The collections have expanded to include major international artists in the 5,440 sq. m. space. This magnificent contemporary art gallery is housed in a former furniture factory between Islington and Old Street, on the banks of the Regent's Canal. It is run by Victoria Miro, a famous British art dealer. 6,000 m² are dedicated to new and up-and-coming artists from the London and international scene. The space is impressive and well worth a visit, in addition to the renowned quality of its exhibitions. It's the ideal place to make artistic discoveries. And the gallery even has its own garden!

The Camden Arts Centre is not only an exhibition venue for contemporary art, but also a place for initiation and discovery. Since it was founded in 1965, the mission of this art center has been to engage the local community in a genuine artistic process, by offering a wide range of courses and workshops. In addition to the gallery spaces, the building includes studios that schools can use free of charge, where people of all ages can learn techniques such as ceramics, painting, drawing and writing... Exhibitions, residencies, educational projects and public events are also organized here. Over the past 25 years, the Centre has introduced London audiences to many important international artists, including Karin "Mamma" Andersson, Mary Heilmann, Hilma af Klint, Kerry James Marshall and Kara Walker. Their exhibitions at the Camden Arts Centre have sometimes been the first of their kind in the UK. The exhibitions feature emerging artists as well as internationally recognized names, and tell the story of contemporary art. Workshops, debates and meetings enable the public to participate in and reflect on the artists' creative processes. A specialized bookshop is also on site, as well as a café and garden open all year round. Located in London's cultural heartland, the Southbank Centre, the Hayward Gallery has been presenting exhibitions of contemporary art, mainly painting and sculpture, since it opened in 1968. Internationally acclaimed, the gallery brilliantly serves contemporary art in its entirety, both English and international, highlighting ever more innovative artists through events and exhibitions. Antony Gormley, Bridget Riley, Roy Lichtenstein... Its austere, brutalist concrete architecture is also particularly striking.

This gallery is owned by two art societies: the Royal Watercolour Society and the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. It was inaugurated in 1980 by Queen Elizabeth II. Since the beginning of the 20th century, these two companies have been working in the same place and organizing exhibitions that reflect their work and show their reflection and vision on art. Founded in 1901 to bring fine art to the heart of the popular and working-class East End, Whitechapel Gallery has distinguished itself by always presenting leading avant-garde artists. It is here that Picasso, Rothko, Frida Kahlo and Nan Goldin exhibited internationally for the first time. The magnificent Art Deco building was designed by the architect Townsend. The gallery is open all year round and also offers bookshop and coffee shop. There are always artists to discover in this space dedicated to contemporary art.
