7 km south of Kočani, and on the left bank of the river Bregalnica, the village of Morodvis houses the ruins of a Christian basilica. Built in the th century, it was the seat of a diocese in the th century, before becoming a mere church in the XIII century. It is believed that the Cyril and Methodius brothers, these inventors and promoters of Cyrillic writing, lived there during their evangelizing mission of the region. No fewer than 80 tombs were uncovered on the immediate slopes of the building.
