In the south of Halland, 145 km from Gothenburg, the E6 motorway passes near Halmstad, a harbour town famous for its 17th century castle. This castle, as well as the ramparts around the city, was built by the Danish king Christian IV, in order to protect himself against the Swedish attacks! The city's coat of arms, depicting three crowns on a shield, was given to him by this Danish king as a reward for Halmstad's bravery and resistance against the Swedes. Today, its main interest lies in the beaches of the Halland coast as well as in its seven golf courses spread around the area. Golf enthusiasts will love it!
