Located 155 km north of Ujung Pandang, this busy port is mainly linked to the east Kalimantan coast opposite. The town is halfway between Ujung Pandang and Rantepao (4-hour journey). Smaller than Ujung Pandang, Pare Pare is of little interest to tourists, with the exception of its shipyards, located along the road in and out of town, where superb wooden boats are built. If you wish to travel to Kalimantan, departures are daily. For the north coast of Sulawesi, two departures a week. Shipping companies abound in the port.
