An almost obligatory stopover on the road to the Panataran temples, Blitar is home to the tomb of President Sukarno, who was buried here in 1970. The choice of location was not innocent: here you are far enough from the capital not to have to fear the demonstrations that the presence of the tomb might provoke among Jakarta's nostalgics. Stop off at the Sukarno Museum.
