This mountain, particularly sacred to Hindus and once an object of pilgrimage, is said to be a piece of Mount Meru that was deposited in Java. Its slopes bear the remains of more than 80 temples, the 2 jewels of which were Candi Belahan and Candi Jolotundo, the latter dating from the 10th century and today deprived of its sculptures, which are often found in the island's museums. The Arjuna-Lalijiwo reserve includes the Arjuno-Welirang volcano (3339 m), the Welirang volcano (3156 m) and the Lalijiwo plateau (approx. 2300 m)
