Ambarawa, located 28 km from Semarang, played a crucial role as a railway junction during the period of Dutch colonization. Inaugurated in 1873, the station was converted into a museum in 1976, now known as the Ambarawa Railway Museum. This somewhat isolated museum preserves steam locomotives dating back over a century and is open daily from 8am to 5pm. Other historic sites worth visiting include the Palagan Ambarawa Monument and Fort Willem I.
