This is the state monopoly store. The Faroese can find strong alcohol and wine here, and tourists can buy a few local beers that are stronger than those found in town. The Faroe Islands had the longest period of prohibition in the world, from 1907 to 1992. In 1985, a national referendum on the trade of beer and wine, and the service of spirits, abolished the ban. Nevertheless, the prevention of alcoholism goes through this state trade. The minimum legal age for the purchase of alcohol is 20 years, and the law is not joked about.
